May Peace be your nature,
>>>I believe it is a misconception to accept the view we must remove Iblis, also termed the Ego, or the awake mind, the self as it were, which is the Sufi view.<<<
I do not hold that view either as I dont associate Iblis with the Self. The Self is God, or conciousness/will, that which percieves matter/energy, but Itself cannot be percieved. We know It by Its effects in the world. Iblis and Shayteen deal with the emoional/animal nature in man. It is not to be removed, but put in its proper place, as a follower, not a leader. This is why the Bible says "satan, get thee behind me". And this teaching(quran) states that we should not FOLLOW the footsteps of Iblis. We never let emotions lead us as they are blind, dumb, animalistic concepts. The WILL must lead, and the energy/matter part of being must do the work, just as the story of Solomon's jinn explains.
>>>What you say Salat means is fine, but do you not have a desire to find the information to reprogramme yourself, do you not have a desire to establish a safe and nurturing environment for yourself and your family, do you not have a desire to develop the ability to reason and think,<<<
Yes I do have those urges/desires as well as others from time to time that are not good. The good ones are associated with "malaika" and the bad ones are associated with "shayteen".
>>all these desires are in line with the Qur'anic concept, we establish purpose and a desire to accomplish that purpose, then we use Dua to perform the action of this desired purpose, and invoke a predetermined result.<<<
Can you please elaborate on this last section as I am not clear what you are saying and this is what I want to understand so I can see where we difference is between our understandings.
My question to you in the meantime is...are there things in your life that you want to change but have not been successful doing it? Like dieting, or stopping smoking, etc? And if so, why is it that you have a hard time doing so, even though you WILL/Declare to do so?
